It’s that time of year again—the time when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame unveils its list of nominations for the following year. The 2016 nominees highlight a variety of genres, from rock to R&B.
The nominees for induction for the class of 2016 are Nine Inch Nails, the Smiths, the Cars, Cheap Trick, Chaka Khan, Chicago, Chic, Deep Purple, the J.B.’s, Janet Jackson, Los Lobos, Steve Miller, N.W.A., the Spinners and Yes.
Artists eligible for nomination in 2016 were required to have released their first recording no later than 1990.
To make the final selection, the Rock Hall states that ballots will go out to an international voting body of more than 800 artists, historians and members of the music industry. Fans can vote, too. Through Dec. 9, 2015, fans can vote for their picks via RockHall.com.
The five artists with the highest number of fan votes will be lumped into a virtual “fans’ ballot” that will be assembled with the other ballots.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will announce their 2016 inductees in December. The induction ceremony will take place in April 2016 in New York are air at a later date on HBO.
