Gerard Way has his own DC Comics imprint

Former My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way has joined forces with DC Comics to launch his own imprint, named Young Animal. Way’s new imprint will kick off this September with an extension of CD Comics’ “Doom Patrol” series, written by Way. This partnership shouldn’t come as a surprise, because My Chemical Romance was long ingrained in the comic book world.

“I am thrilled to help bring DC’s Young Animal to life, having been raised on experimental ’80s and ’90s takes on superheroes. I see Young Animal as a place to try new ideas — following the spirit of those books from the past but bring them somewhere else,” Way said in a statement. “I see it as an imprint where we can explore fine art, bold concepts, mature themes, and strangeness — with lots of heart.”

Way’s Young Animal already has other titles on the way, including “Shade, the Changing Girl”; “Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye”; and “Mother Panic.”

Way has already authored “The Umbrella Academy” comic book series, which started publication in 2007. He also penned the last issue of the Spider-Man “Edge of the Spider-Verse” sequence in 2014.
