Metal band Disturbed gets accolades from Paul Simon

Disturbed have enjoyed plenty of accolades about their moving cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” including the song crossing over to the mainstream and making it onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart. David Draiman and company performed the song on “Conan O’Brien Presents: Team Coco” last week, and the performance drew some accolades from the one and only Paul Simon.

Simon took to Facebook to praise Disturbed for their version of the tune, saying, “In case you missed it, Disturbed did a wonderful rendition of ‘The Sound of Silence’ on Conan this week. The S&G cover also appears on Disturbed’s latest album, ‘Immortalized.’” He also posted a video of the performance on Facebook, which can be viewed below. Disturbed responded by sharing Simon’s post on Facebook and writing, “Humbled and grateful beyond words. Thank you so much Mr. Paul Simon!”

Disturbed will perform “The Sound of Slience” and their catalog of much heavier hits on the road this summer. The guys just kicked off a North American headlining run, and they’re also scheduled to appear at a variety of music festivals this year, including Rock on the Range in Columbus, Ohio, and Chicago Open Air in Bridgeview, Illinois.
