Weezer’s Next Album to Have Darker Themes, Says Rivers Cuomo
Rivers Cuomo describes Weezer’s next release as ‘Beach Boys gone bad’
Weezer just unleashed a new album, “Weezer (White Album),” earlier this month, but singer Rivers Cuomo is already talking about their next release. While the band’s new album has the vibe of a fun, summer-loving Beach Boys record, Cuomo says Weezer’s next release could be called the “Black Album” and look at darker themes.
“I think it’s going to maybe be like Beach Boys gone bad,” Cuomo told DIY. “I’m thinking of swearing, which is something I’ve never done in songs.”
Cuomo also said the new tunes will likely deal with with “more mature topics” and be “less summer day and more winter night.” Interesting.
“If it were a movie…it would be rated R instead of PG,” Cuomo said.
Cuomo said Weezer could return to the studio as early as the fall. Before they start working on this new, darker Weezer, the boys will tour behind the “White Album” this summer with Panic! at the Disco.
