Here’s the Story Behind Guns N’ Roses Reuniting
GN’R members dish on how they got back together
If you’ve been wondering how in the world Guns N’ Roses ended up patching things up and getting back together, singer Axl Rose and bass player Duff McKagan are finally coming clean with the story. The two recently spoke with Brazilian news show Fantástico (posted on Globo.com) about how the reunion came together, and Rose explained that the group’s partial reunion came together after a chat with Coachella festival promoter Paul Tollett. When Tollett expressed interest in booking the guys to perform at this year’s Coachella, things started to fall into place.
Rose said that he was okay with the idea but didn’t have Slash’s phone number anymore. He asked a member of the GN’R management team for Slash’s digits, and although it took some time, Slash came over to Rose’s house for dinner in October of 2015, and the guys soon contacted Duff McKagan, and they all made the decision to reunite.
After rehearsing together, Rose said the group quickly came together, and they decided to do a full tour.
So, what about Guns N’ Roses’ other founding members, drummer Steven Alder and guitarist Izzy Stradlin? Rose mentioned that Adler performed a few times with the guys at shows and hinted that a back problem is perhaps why Adler wasn’t on the full trek.
Stradlin decided not to take part in the tour. Rose explained, “I don’t really know what to say about Izzy. It’s, like, you could have a conversation and think it’s one way and the next day it’s another way.”
