In This Moment, Killswitch Engage + Prophets of Rage: Record Store Day Black Friday Picks
Record Store Day Black Friday rock and metal highlights
Black Friday is upon us, and with it, comes Record Store Day’s exclusive Black Friday releases. Each year, the folks behind Record Store Day put together a list of vinyl and other music releases available only at your local record shop. We browsed through the full list of releases and picked three rock and metal highlights that each have something special to offer. For the full list of exclusive Black Friday releases, visit Record Store Day’s official website.
In This Moment, ‘A Star-Crossed Wasteland’
Female-fronted modern metal band In This Moment released “A Star-Crossed Wasteland” back in 2010, and Maria Brink and the gan are resurrecting the album for Record Store Day Black Friday. The reissued album will be pressed on vinyl for the first time, in green and black splatter.
Killswitch Engages, ‘Beyond the Flames: Home Video Part II’
The majority of Record Store Day Black Friday releases are on vinyl, but metal-core group Killswitch Engage has a Blu-Ray arriving instead. “Beyond The Flames: Home Video Part II offers more than three hours of band footage that documents Jesse Leach’s return to the band after a decade absence. The documentary starts off where Killswitch Engage’s 2005 “{Set This} World Ablaze” release left off. Bonus material includes music videos, outtakes, band member profiles and a bonus audio CD of six never-before-released live tracks from the group’s 2014 “Monster Mosh” concert in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Prophets of Rage, ‘The Party’s Over’
The party may be over for Rage Against the Machine, but it’s just beginning for Prophets of Rage. The Rage supergroup – which brings together Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine along with Chuck D of Public Enemy, B-Real of Cypress Hill and DJ Lord – released their debut EP earlier this year. Now, that EP, called “The Party’s Over,” will arrive on vinyl for Record Store Day Black Friday. It includes two original songs, plus live versions of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill cover tunes.
