Paramore Singer Haley Williams Opens Up About Depression
Haley Williams of Paramore recently struggled with depression
Hayley Williams of Paramore is opening up about a struggle she recently had with depression. In a new interview with The Fader, she talks about her experience with depression over the past few years.
“For the first time in my life, there wasn’t a pinhole of light at the end of the tunnel,” Williams said. “I thought, ‘I just wish everything would stop.’ It wasn’t in the sense of, ‘I’m going to take my life.’ It was just hopelessness. Like, ‘What’s the point?'”
“I don’t think I understood how dangerous hopelessness is,” she added. “Everything hurts.”
Williams’ depression even got in the way of her career. It’s one of the reasons she left Paramore in 2015. Thankfully, it turned out to be just a hiatus.
“I just was done,” she says. “I thought, ‘There’s gotta be something else that I’m good at in my life. Maybe it’s time for me to go find that.'”
One thing that helped was Williams the support of band mate Taylor York, who also had bouts with depression. The two to work on music and send her unfinished tracks.
“We both had doubts, and we had unity in that,” York said. “I told her she didn’t have to do stuff. But I just kept writing, and then there was this time that she got it again.”
