U2, Iggy Pop and Clutch Among 2017 Record Store Day Black Friday Releases

Story by Anne Erickson

Thanksgiving is here, and tomorrow (Nov. 24) will bring the 2017 edition of Record Store Day’s Black Friday event. Each year, the event offers a number of exclusive, limited-edition vinyl records that are only available in your local, independently-owned record stores. This year’s tally includes releases by U2, Iggy Pop, Clutch and many more acts in different musical genres.

U2 will release “The Blackout,” a 12-inch vinyl, via Jack White’s label, Third Man Records. “The Blackout” marks “the first physical music” from U2’s “Songs of Experience” album, according to Record Store Day’s website, which is due out Dec. 1. The record features the original album version backed by an exclusive remix by Jacknife Lee. While black vinyl editions will be available at various Record Store Day shops, 750 colored vinyl editions will be released only at Third Man Records in Nashville.

Michigan punk favorite Iggy Pop will release his seminal “New Values” record in LP format, featuring his popular tracks “Five Foot One” and his collaboration with the Stooge’s James Williamson, “Don’t Look Down.” The release, out on Friday Music, will arrive as a blue/black swirl vinyl in a gatefold cover and with a 24 x 24 poster.

Metal fans will breathe a sign of relief to learn that Clutch is participating in this year’s Record Store Day Black Friday event. The band will release “Pitchfork & Lost Needles” as a 12-inch picture disc via Weathermaker Music. “Pitchfork & Lost Needles” will mark the third in a series of three Clutch picture disc releases in 2017.

Additional 2017 Record Store Day Black Friday releases include wax discs from Cold War Kids, Gary Clark Jr., Queen, Death from Above 1979, Steel Panther and more. For the full list of releases, visit RecordStoreDay.com.
