Metallica Covers ‘The Final Countdown’ in Sweden
Watch the metal men of Metallica perform Europe’s ‘The Final Countdown’ during a gig in Sweden
If you’ve been following Metallica’s European tour, then chances are you know it’s become a tradition of sorts for bass player Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett to perform some interesting cover songs as part of the shows.
The band performed in Stockholm, Sweden last weekend, and the guys picked a very appropriate cover tune to bring to life onstage. Trujillo and Hammett performed “The Final Countdown” by the band Europe, who hails from Sweden.
The cover tune was part of Trujillo and Hammett’s regular “doodle” covers, and with all of these, Trujillo performs lead vocals while Hammett rocks the guitar, in this case, using the guitar to play the song’s famed keyboard riff. Official footage of the performance is streaming now via YouTube.
As for some of Trujillo and Hammett’s other covers on the European trek, the guys performed a-ha’s “Take on Me” in Oslo, Norway, and a popular Czech parody ditty in Prague.
The metal men of Metallica are currently touring Europe to promote their latest album, the chart-topping “Hardwired…to Self-Destruct.” The band will return to the U.S. in September to kick off an arena tour, and they currently have tour dates booked through March of 2019. After that, the band will hit the studio to work on their follow-up to “Hardwired.”
