Poison, Cheap Trick + Pop Evil Have ‘Nothin’ But A Good Time’ in Michigan – Tour Review
Review + photos: The guys of Poison, Cheap Trick and Pop Evil make for a high-energy night of rock
Poison and Cheap Trick have joined forces for a blockbuster summer tour, dubbed the Nothin’ But a Good Time tour, and the bands recently performed at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, near Detroit. From Bret Michaels’ onstage charisma with Poison to Rick Nielsen’s ferocious guitar work in Cheap Trick, the show had the crowd energized clear from the pavilion to the back of the lawn.
Michigan’s own Pop Evil kicked off the show, and the rockers are also celebrating the 10th anniversary of their debut studio album, “Lipstick on the Mirror.” Leigh Kakaty and company delivered passion and anthemic rock songs to an eager crowd.
Cheap Trick churned out hit after hit, kicking off their hour-long set with “Hello There” and following up with “You Got It Going On,” “Long Time Coming,” “Surrender,” “I Want You to Want Me” and more. Singer Robin Zander’s son Robin Zander Jr., was also onstage, as he’s now a touring member of Cheap Trick on rhythm guitar.
Poison headlined the show, knocking out more than an hour of songs that spanned their entire career. After beginning the set with “Look What the Cat Dragged In,” the reunited Michaels, drummer Rikki Rockett, bass player Bobby Dall and C.C. DeVille fired up all the favorites: “Talk Dirty to Me,” “Something to Believe In,” “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” “Nothin’ But a Good Time” and more, including solos from all the instrumentalists.
