Jill Janus, vocalist for metal band Huntress has passed away at 43 years old. The news broke via Janus’ former band mate Casey Wood, who posted a message about the loss on Facebook.

“I’m in shock and can’t stop crying,” Wood stated. “My X best friend, singer has left the world. She was the biggest sweetheart and I hope that her Legacy lives on as it should! You were supposed to be on your way back here Jill Janus. I love you I miss you, and my door is still open for you always. Rest in peace my sister.”

Johnny Jetson, also Janus’ former band mate, also posted on Facebook, stating: “Very sad news… Just talked to my drummer Casey Wood who informed me that our singer Jill Janus has passed away. My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones… Jill was amazing and will be missed…”

Janus has struggled with mental illness throughout her life and told Psychology Today that she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, “I’ve always seen and heard things others couldn’t. Many visions or dreams would manifest into reality, which my family and friends described as my ‘psychic ability.’ This caused more drama at school, being called a ‘freak’ and getting beaten up…”

Janus also said that, “Music saved my life. My mother says I was singing before I could speak. I knew my purpose as soon as I could talk. It was always music. I relate to the mathematics behind music, it soothes my brain and helps me cope with my various disorders.”

Janus was also diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2015 and fought the disease to become cancer-free. Huntress’ latest album, “Static,” arrived in 2015 on Napalm Records.
