Collective Soul Readies New Album, ‘Blood’
Collective Soul will release a new album this year, called “Blood,” and set out on a major tour with Gin Blossoms
Collective Soul is celebrating their 25th year together, and during this anniversary year, they’ll perform a slew of shows and release new music. The guys will kick off their summer “Now’s The Time Tour” with Gin Blossoms in May, and the following month, they’ll release their 10th studio album.
“Blood” will arrive on June 21 via Fuzze-Flex Records/ADA. Pre-orders of the album are available here, and digital pre-orders include a download of the album’s debut single, “Right As Rain,” as well as downloads of “Good Place To Start” and “Them Blues,” which will be available May 17 and June 7, respectively. Stream the lyric video for “Right As Rain” below.
“’Right As Rain’ is a phrase I had for a while,” vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist E Roland said in a statement. “It was one my grandmother used to tell me about–one of those old Southern things, you know? ‘C’mon, I’m gonna spank you right as rain!’ I never really knew what it meant (laughs). While I was writing it, Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow’s lead guitarist and musical director) was home one day in Atlanta, and we invited him over to play the slide-guitar solo on the song for us. We all just sat around together and jammed it out.”
The album’s title, “Blood,” represents one thing to Collective Soul: family.
“So much of it is based on the camaraderie-ship of the band,” Roland said. “All of us basically have children, and my brother Dean just had a baby girl. Jesse’s the only one who doesn’t have kids, but he’s basically a baby, in age anyway. My brother’s in the band so there’s blood there, but the five us — it’s a family.”
