Tool Debut Two New Songs at Welcome to Rockville Festival
Maynard James Keenan and his band Tool performed two new songs, “Descending” and “Invincible,” at Welcome to Rockville over the weekend
Progressive rock band Tool performed two new songs, “Descending” and “Invincible,” during their headlining performance last night (May 5) at Welcome to Rockville festival in Jacksonville, Florida. Both songs will likely be released on Tool’s much-anticiapted follow-up to 2006’s “10,000 Days” album, which is expected to arrive later this year.
Tool had previously performed an entirely instrumental version of “Descending,” but the Welcome to Rockville performance was the band’s first time playing the track with full vocals from frontman Maynard James Keenan. Find fan-filmed footage of the new songs below.
Welcome to Rockville was Tool’s first performance of 2019. The band will continued on a short U.S. tour through mid-May, which will wrap up with a headlining performance at Chicago Open Air festival on May 19. The band will also play handful of European festival appearances this summer.
In other news, Tool has kept off streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and the various other digital streaming outlets, allowing their music to be available only on physical albums or by purchasing songs via download. That changed last week, as profile pages for Tool suddenly appeared on Spotify and Apple Music.
Both Spotify and Apple Music profiles include the same band biography. No music is up on the pages yet, but with Tool’s impending album set for release later this year, the new profile pages indicated Tool’s music will be heading to streaming services in the near future.
Also last week, guitarist Adam Jones took to Instagram to tease fans with a short video clip of him playing a catchy new guitar riff. He posted the video with the caption, “Getting ready for Sunday,” which was a reference to Welcome to Rockville festival. Watch the clip below.
