Lzzy Hale of Halestorm: My Brother and I Both Have Been Touched By Mental Illness
Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale says mental illness runs through her family and has impacted her in many ways
Halestorm vocalist Lzzy Hale recently opened up about her family’s connection with mental illness. Speaking with Jose Mangin and Zippo Encore (see video below), Hale discussed her special mental health awareness campaign that she started after Huntress frontman Jill Janus committed suicide.
After Janus’ death, Hale posted a photo online holding up the “metal horns” with the hashtag #RaiseYourHorns and asked others who have dealt with mental illness to follow suit.
“My brother (Halestorm drummer Arejay) and I both have been touched in many ways by mental illness,” she said int the interview. “It runs through our family. And we’ve lost many friends — not just the rock stars, but many friends — to that. It’s amazing how it doesn’t matter, your walk of life, and it doesn’t matter what… You can seem perfectly happy, but everyone’s battling… And what I see mostly, especially in our community — we have such an amazing fanbase — everybody lifts each other up.”
She added, “So we kind of sit back. But it’s great to remind everybody of that. Even people like me and everybody that you’re talking to, we’re all the same — we’re all going through the same things.”
She added that she feels since she’s in a position right now to impact others, she “might as well push that out there, and put that positivity out there, and be a good person and show people things that maybe they didn’t know. And I think that’s important.”
