Dave Mustaine of Megadeth is Officially Cancer Free
Megadeth main man Dave Mustaine is free from cancer, and he says prayer and his fans helped him recover
Dave Mustaine is kicking off 2020 by sharing some great news: The longtime Megadeth frontman is officially cancer free.
Mustaine made the announcement during a Megadeth show in London last Friday (Jan. 31). Mustaine, who first dropped the news of his cancer diagnosis last summer, explained to the crowd that he has actually known about his cancer-free status for a few months.
“It was 51 radiation treatments and nine chemo treatments,” Mustaine said, as captured on video. “When it was all said and done, everyday I would think, ‘I can’t face not playing again.'”
“On October 16, I went to go see the doctor, and he said, ‘You’re 100 percent free of cancer,'” he added, after which the crowd exploded.
Mustaine went on to explain that prayer was a big part of his recovery.
“When it was all said and done, every day I would think, ‘I can’t face not playing again,’ so I would pray,” he said. “I know a lot of you guys know that I pray. I say that in ‘Peace Sells.’ I pray every day. I say that in the song. I’ve said it since the second record.”
He also thanked his fans, stating, “But I thought about you guys every day, too. And I thought about my family. And I got this power from you guys. And I just kept thinking about it.”
Megadeth is currently taking their thrash metal sounds across Europe, touring with Las Vegas hard rockers Five Finger Death Punch. The band has been working on the follow-up to their Grammy Award-winning 2016 album, “Dystopia.”
