Evanescence Releases Dramatic New Song, ‘Wasted on You’
Listen to the new song from Amy Lee and Evanescence, “Wasted on You”
Evanescence has debuted a new song called “Wasted on You,” which marks the first track to be released from the group’s upcoming album, “The Bitter Truth.”
“Wasted on You” is available now via digital outlets, and with it, comes an up-close-and-personal music video splicing together footage of Amy Lee and the band in their respective quarantined areas, going about their daily lives.
From a vocal standpoint, Lee shines on “Wasted on You.” He vocals take on a deep, soulful vibe as she moves through the song’s dramatic landscapes. It’s a softer, more ballad-like song that Evanescence is known for, but the theatrics should appease longtime fans.
“‘Wasted On You’ wasn’t the song we were planning to release first, but when the whole world went into indefinite lockdown and everything changed, so did the feeling and meaning of what we wanted to say right now,” Lee said in a statement. “I didn’t write these lyrics about what we’re all now going through, but somehow that’s exactly what they are.”
Expect more Evanescence music on the way this year, as the band says the album will be released “incrementally” over the year. Evanescence is the same boat as pretty much every other band right now, in being grounded from playing live shows does to the coronairus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The Bitter Truth” will mark Evanescence’s follow-up to 2017’s “Synthesis,” which included re-imagined versions of past Evanescence songs with additional electronic and orchestral flourishes.
Before “Synthesis,” Evanescence’s latest album of all original music was their 2011 self-titled release. Ink rating: 9/10 stars.
