Healthcare Expert Predicts Concerts Will Return in Fall 2021
When will concerts and sporting events once again be safe to attend? One healthcare expert predicts fall 2021
With festivals and tours constantly being canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), a lot of music fans are wondering when things might get back to normal. Some summer and fall tours are still on, but will that change as those dates inch closer?
Zeke Emanuel, who serves as vice provost for global initiatives and director of the Healthcare Transformation Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, predicts that live concerts and other mass gatherings, such as sports events, will come back around fall 2021.
“Larger gatherings — conferences, concerts, sporting events — when people say they’re going to reschedule this conference or graduation event for October 2020, I have no idea how they think that’s a plausible possibility,” Emanuel told the New York Times.
“I think those things will be the last to return,” he continued. “Realistically we’re talking fall 2021 at the earliest.”
Many of the festivals and tours that were scheduled for spring have already been rescheduled for the fall or next year due to the COVID-19 outbreak, while others are on hold until there’s more information about when it will be safe to return to mass gatherings.
