Metallica to Release Jam-Packed ‘S&M2’ Box Set
Metallica has announced a massive “S&M2” box set, chronicling the band’s two-night stint with the San Francisco Symphony last year
With no major concerts in sight due to coronavirus (COVID-19), Metallica are giving fans a taste of a massive live show experience with their upcoming “S&M2” box set, due out on Aug. 28.
The box set takes fans through the metal band’s two concerts last September accompanied by the San Francisco Symphony. “S&M2” will be available in a variety of packages, including a deluxe edition with four vinyl LPs, two CDs and a Blu-ray disc, as well as sheet music, a photo book, five guitar picks, a poster and a download card.
The Super Deluxe Box edition comes with everything packaged in the regular deluxe edition, as well as the original sheet music used during the concert and signed by the Metallica members. The Super Deluxe Box is only available via Metallica.com and limited to 500 copies.
As a teaser, watch the Metallica videos for their S&M2 performances of “Nothing Else Matters” and “All Within My Hands” below.
The S&M2 concerts served as the grand opening of the new Chase Center in San Francisco. The shows also marked the 20th anniversary of Metallica’s 1999 live album “S&M,” in which the band first performed backed by the San Francisco Symphony.
Metallica actually haven’t performed a show since S&M2. The band only had a handful of dates booked for 2020, to give frontman James Hetfield time to recuperate in rehab, and the few dates they did have booked were canceled or postponed due to coronavirus.
