Zakk Wylde and Zakk Sabbath Cover ‘Black Sabbath’
Zakk Sabbath’s Black Sabbath cover band, “Zakk Sabbath,” will release a new album on Sept. 4
It’s no secret that Zakk Wylde is a big Black Sabbath fan, so much that he even has a tribute band called Zakk Sabbath, where he covers Black Sabbath tunes. Now, the band will release a new album, called “Vertigo,” on Sept. 4, and Wylde has shared a new track off the set, a heavy version of the song “Black Sabbath.”
“Vertigo” is named after Black Sabbath’s old record label and boasts the same track list as Sabbath’s 1970 debut album, which turns 50 this year. The upcoming album features Wylde, along with bass player Blasko of Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band and drummer Joey Castillo of Queens of the Stone Age and Danzig.
“We recorded a live EP and were wondering what we could do next as a cover band, so the 50th album anniversary came just at the right time,” Blasko said in a release of Zakk Sabbath’s choice to release their own version of Black Sabbath’s debut album.
He added, “Compared to Paranoid, which is almost like a best-of record, the bulk of the material on Black Sabbath is deep-cut, really experimental stuff that was never thoroughly explored, so that was a challenge, not to forget that we wanted to meet our own high standards.”
Vertigo was “faithfully recorded in the spirit of the original, live in the studio and with a film crew documenting the process,” states a press release.
What’s unique about “Vertigo” is that to “make the release feel authentic to the time when vinyl ruled the earth,” the set won’t be available digitally. It will arrive via digipak CD, CD/DVD hardcover book and limited-edition yellow vinyl. View the full track listing and listen to “Black Sabbath” below.
