Metallica’s Blackened Whiskey is getting a special boost during the distilling process with “S&M2” cuts

Metal music and whiskey go hand-in-hand, and in that spirit, Metallica have unleashed a new, S&M2-inspired version of the group’s signature Blackened Whiskey.

Metallica first introduced their Blackened Whiskey back in 2018, which is crafted using “Black Noise,” which means Metallica songs are actually played during the distilling process, making it extra metal. According to Metallica, the low-frequency sounds waves of the metal group’s music creates a special “flavor” for the whiskey.

When brewing the latest round of Blackened Whiskey, the guys of Metallica made sure selections from Metallica’s new S&M2 live album were playing during the distilling process. That live set was recorded in September 2019 during the band’s two celebrated shows accompanied by the San Francisco Symphony and honored the 20th anniversary of the band’s first time performing with the symphony.

“The first S&M shows in 1999 were such a pivotal part of Metallica’s evolution,” guitarist Kirk Hammett said in a statement. “We knew we had to mark their 20th anniversary on an even bigger scale, but without sacrificing any of the intimacy of those shows. The reaction has been incredible, to the shows and the album, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring those same S&M2 vibes to Blackened!”
