John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers says the band is back to “writing new music” and working on a new studio album
Red Hot Chili Peppers are moving full-steam ahead on their new album. According to guitarist John Frusciante, the band is back to “writing new music” and gearing up to record a new studio album.
In an interview with Australia’s Double J radio, Frusciante stated the band had been rehearsing together before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hit.
“We were rehearsing for a couple months, and then the quarantine started, and then we stopped rehearsing for a couple months, and then we went back to rehearsing,” Frusciante said. “We’re moving ahead with what we’re doing, we’re writing new music.”
Frusciante was a member of the Chili Peppers from 1988 to 1992 and again from 1998 and 2009, and then he left. He rejoined the group last year and says the experience is like getting back with his family.
“I’m extremely comfortable with those people,” Frusciante said. “It was as if no time had gone by at all when we started playing, pretty much, with a couple of minor exceptions, like how [drummer] Chad [Smith] and I gradually got our communication together in a new way.”
“Basically, we’re all just as comfortable with each other as we ever were, and it just felt like that right off the bat,” he added.
In other news, Frusciante recently released a new solo album, “Maya.”
