Will Foo Fighters Ever Record a Christmas Song? Dave Grohl Answers
Foo Fighters have never released a proper Christmas song, and Dave Grohl discusses the possibility of that happening in the future
It’s the holiday season, and bands often release Christmas songs this time of year. One longstanding rock band that has never released a Christmas song is Foo Fighters. So, will they ever record their own holiday song? In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, frontman Dave Grohl says he doesn’t think it will happen in the near future.
“Trying to write a new Christmas song, it’s kind of tricky,” Grohl explained. “Because it’s like, you’re so used to the classics. You’re so used to being crotchety.”
“I think we’ve been asked to do it, but I wouldn’t even know what to say,” he added. “Like, ‘I took mushrooms with the teachers from my school. I took a bunch of mushrooms in my house with my mom.’ I don’t really think it’d work. No, we’ve never even tried. I don’t know if people would want us to do that. I’m not sure.”
Grohl goes on to speculate that perhaps one day the Foos will release a Christmas song as a farewell to fans.
“Maybe the day that we decide we don’t want to do this anymore, we make a Christmas song and then we ride off into the sunset,” he said.
Even though Foo Fighters have never recorded a holiday song, they have played some holiday jams, including a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run” during an Amazon Music holiday concert stream earlier this month. On top of that, Grohl and Foo Fighters producer Greg Kurstin have been covering Jewish artists this year as part of their Hanukkah Sessions song series.
Foo Fighters’ next big release is far from Christmas music. The band will unleash their new album, “Medicine at Midnight,” on Feb. 5, 2021. The album already features a No. 1 rock radio hit in the single “Shame Shame.”
