Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross Win Golden Globe for Best Original Score for ‘Soul’
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross took home the 2021 Golden Globe for Best Original Score for a Motion Picture for the Disney/Pixar movie, “Soul”
Congratulations are in order for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who took home the Best Original Score for a Motion Picture at Sunday’s (Feb. 28) Golden Globes. The Nine Inch Nails rockers scored the honors for their work on the Disney/Pixar movie “Soul,” which also included music from Jon Batiste of “The Late Show.” Reznor and Ross were also nominated for their score of the David Fincher movie “Mank.”
Reznor made a fun joke when accepting the award, stating, “I think this is the first piece of art I’ve ever made in my life that I can actually show my kids.” He also thanked his wife for her support in his short acceptance speech.
Reznor and Ross have worked together on a range of other major scores and projects over the years. Previously, the two won an Oscar in 2010 for their work on “The Social Network,” as well as an Emmy Award for composing the music for HBO’s “Watchmen” and a Grammy Award for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”
This is Reznor and Ross’ second Golden Globes award, their previous one being for writing the score for “The Social Network.” The duo were also nominated for Golden Globes for their work on “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and “Gone Girl,” giving the duo five total nominations in the category.
A handful of other musicians and music-centric projects scored Golden Globe nominations but didn’t take home wins. “Sia’s Music” was up for Best Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy, and Kate Hudson was nominated for Best Performance By An Actress In A Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy in the film. Additionally, “Hamilton” was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy, and Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated for Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy.
