Rise Against Announce New Album, ‘Nowhere Generation’; Release Title Track
Rise Against new album: Band says new album, “Nowhere Generation,” is meant “to jostle people awake, even it if makes you uncomfortable”
Chicago punk group Rise Against have announced a new album, “Nowhere Generation.” The record, which will mark their ninth studio release and follow-up to 2017’s “Wolves,” will hit stores on June 4 and is available for pre-order now.
In advance of the new album, Rise Against have released the title track off “Nowhere Generation.” The song is available now via digital outlets and can be streamed via YouTube below.
“I’ve come to realize that people want honesty and that music can be a catalyst for change,” frontman Tim McIlrath said in a statement. “I think in many ways, we’ve been on a mission to rile people up, and I feel very lucky to be able to do that.”
He added that Rise Against’s “hope on this record is to jostle people awake, even it if makes you uncomfortable.”
Regarding the subject matter of “Nowhere Generation,” McIlrath said it surrounds the promise of the American Dream, and the reality of the American Dream. He added, “America’s ‘historical norm’ that the next generation will be better off than the one that came before has been diminished by an era of mass social, economic, and political instability and a sell-out of the Middle Class.”
McIlrath concluded, “The brass ring that was promised by hard work and dedication no longer exists for everyone. When the privileged climb the ladder of success and then burn it from the top, disruption becomes the only answer.”
To record “Nowhere Generation,” Rise Against worked with the Grammy-nominated creative director Brian Roettinger, who has worked with a range of artists, including Jay-Z, Florence and the Machine and No Age. The album will feature 11 original songs, including the previously released single “Broken Dreams, Inc.,” which arrived last fall.
