Slipknot Share Heartfelt Statement on the Passing of Joey Jordison
Joey Jordison passed away last week, and Slipknot, the band he helped create, took to social media to play their respects
Slipknot founding drummer Joey Jordison passed away last week at the age of 46, and the death sent ripples of heartbreak across the music world, especially for fans of the masked metal band. Now, Slipknot also shared a tribute video to the late drummer via social media.
In an official statement shared on Twitter Friday (July 30), Slipknot wrote, “Our hearts go out to Joey’s family and loved ones at this time of tremendous loss. Joey Jordison’s art, talent, and spirit could not be contained or be held back. Joey’s impact on Slipknot, on our lives, and on the music that he loved, is incalculable. Without him there would be no us. We mourn his loss with the entire Slipknot family. We love you, Joey.”
Jordison was a founding member of Slipknot and performed in the group from its inception until his departure at the end of 2013. After leaving the band, he revealed that he was dealing with transverse myelitis, a neurological condition that impacted his drumming.
When Jordison’s death first became known, Slipknot blacked out their social media profiles to pay honor to the drummer. After news of his passing spread, a multitude of musicians paid their respects.
Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo wrote, “I am shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Joey Jordison. An incredible musician and songwriter, gone way too soon. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who he touched with his talent. RIP Joey.”
Thrash metal Anthrax took to Twitter to state, “We are saddened by the news of the passing of our friend Joey Jordison. A great musician and person has left us. Sending our love to his family. R.I.P”
Rock band Shinedown posted a message and photo of Joey on Twitter, stating, “To say this dude created an entire generation of drummers would be a massive understatement. Rest easy – Joey.”
