Pearl Jam Plot Out Recording Plans for New Album
Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam says the band will hit the studio with producer Andrew Watt early this year
It’s ironic that the latest album from Pearl Jam, “Gigaton,” is named after gigging, when the band wasn’t able to tour in support of the set. Now, even with hardly any touring behind “Gigaton,” the band has decided to move forward and start crafting their follow-up to the record.
Speaking with NME in support of his new solo release, Eddie Vedder said that the band is shooting to get in the studio with Andrew Watt, the producer behind Vedder’s upcoming solo album, “Earthling.” Watt is a big-named producer who has worked with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Justin Bieber and more. He’s also a winner of the Non-Classical Producer of the Year Grammy.
“We’ll make a record with Andrew, I believe,” Vedder said in the interview. “We’ve already talked about it. You know, the pandemic came right as we were leaving for a tour on the ‘Gigaton’ record. We had a lot of shows planned. Two-thirds of those shows were put on sale, even. So one thing we’ll be doing in 2022 in making good on promises to play those shows.”
For fans who hope to see Pearl Jam on the road, Vedder says that wish will be come a reality. In the interview, Vedder said that although the rescheduled dates haven’t been announced yet, the band plans to tour starting in May.
Pearl Jam will hit the studio before the tour, though, since the frontman states, “we’ve got a strong, healthy ambition to do so.”
As for Watt, working with Vedder has been a dream come true. The producer gushed about being a fan of the band during a recent interview with Billboard.
In addition to produce Vedder’s new album and Pearl Jam’s upcoming set, Watt will also be a member of Vedder’s backing band during his intimate Earthling tour, which kicks off next month. View the full roster of tour dates via Eddie Vedder’s Facebook page.
