Chris Daughtry of “American Idol” fame and Lzzy Hale of Halestorm have joined forces for a cover of the Journey classic “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).” The cover comes at an apt time, as roughly 40 years have passed since the song’s initial release.
“Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” was first released as a single off Journey’s “Frontiers LP,” featuring an unforgettable vocal performance by then-frontman Steve Perry. For this cover, Daughtry and Hale share the passion and power of the original song, delivering a powerhouse duet with an intricate vocal arrangement.
in sharing the song, Daughtry posted on Facebook, “40 years ago today Journey released this song as a single from their album ‘Frontiers.’ It is truly an honor to share this rendition with you. We hope you dig it!”
Hale also commented, stating, “Chris Daughtry and I have been threatening to unleash a duet for years. What better way to do that than by paying tribute to one of our mutual influences…. JOURNEY! This song is not only part of the ‘Stranger Things’ soundtrack, but has been my go-to for karaoke for as long as I can remember! I’m so honored to have been a part of this and I hope it makes you smile as big as I did while recording it!”
The cover is an extra special treat for Daughtry fans, as the song marks the first new music from Daughtry since 2021’s “Dearly Beloved.” Hale and her band Halestorm most recently released a new album, “Back from the Dead,” in 2022. That album was named one of the best releases of 2022 by Audio Ink Radio.
In addition to the new song, Hale and Daughtry have released an accompanying lyric video. Watch the video and listen to their over of Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” below.
