Tool Vocalist Maynard James Keenan to Open New Winemaking Spot in October
Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan is opening a new winemaking facility
Maynard James Keenan is opening a new, scenic winemaking facility. The new spot will be located on the site of a former Masonic lodge in Cottonwood, Arizona.
The Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer vocalist and his crew who works with him on his Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards will open the new location on Oct. 6. The complex will boast 270-degree views of the Verde Valley, which should make for some stunning looks. The new space will also include the Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery and Trattoria restaurant, the Caduceus Cellars Hilltop Facility and the VSC Ventura Room.
Keenan has been involved in the wine industry for decades. He founded Caduceus Cellars back in 2004. In other words, this isn’t an overnight success story.
“In the many years I’ve been working towards this moment, one of the things I discovered when it comes to bridging the hurdle of exposing people to Arizona wine is context,” Keenan said in a statement. “So, by putting a place like this in the middle of Cottonwood with five acres of vines, to winery facilities with a full greenhouse, and a full kitchen, all the context becomes visible, and you kind of break down the barriers of whatever preconceptions you have of Arizona wine.”
In addition to the wine, the new location is meant to attract tourists, too. It will offer seven acres of wine country, with a new winery and cellar, tasting room, restaurant and food production greenhouse. Also, the vineyard will be located in the historic Old Town Cottonwood.
The rest of 2023 is shaping up to be very busy for Keenan. In addition to the new wine facility, he’s also on Tool’s upcoming fall North American tour. The trek will set off Oct. 3 in Loveland, Ohio.
