Sevendust Singer Lajon Witherspoon Calls Bad Omens One of His New Favorite Bands
Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust has a new favorite band in Bad Omens
Sevendust vocalist Lajon Witherspoon has been tearing it up on the stage and in the studio for decades at this point. So, it’s time for Witherspoon to start looking around and getting to know some of the up-and-coming talent in the heavy music world. After all, perhaps some of these younger rockers will help keep the flame of rock and metal alive for the next generation.
Speaking with Audio Ink Radio in a recent interview, Witherspoon gushed over a newer band that he learned about through his daughter. That band is rising metalcore stars Bad Omens. He went to see them live during their North American tour last spring and was more than impressed.
So, how did the topic of Bad Omens come up in the interview? During the chat, Audio Ink Radio’s Anne Erickson mentioned that she recently went to one of her first indoor concerts in several years, following the shutdowns. Witherspoon asked which band she went to see live, and when Erickson answered “Bad Omens,” he got excited.
“Oh, my!” he exclaimed. “The reason I yelled so bad is because I went on Instagram live while watching my son take his little a lesson today in soccer at the high school. I let my daughter drive me in her new Volkswagen Bug. So, she drove me up there, and she was like, I’m going to sit in my car, dad. I was like, all right, cool, why don’t you turn your system up, because you have a nice little system there. Let me see if I can hear it. And she text me, and she’s like, are you ready? I’m like, yeah. And she’s rocking out. So, I’m walking up, and I’m like, what are you listening to there? And she’s like, Bad Omens.”
“So, I took them to the show two weeks ago,” he added. “The whole family went to see Bad Omens… It was great, man. I’ve never seen those guys…it was sold out. It was great.”
Bad Omens released their latest album, “The Death of Peace of Mind,” in 2022. One of the songs off the album, “Just Pretend,” went viral on TikTok, which introduced Bad Omens to a whole new demographic. Now, Bad Omens are out on a fall North American headline tour. The trek currently runs through mid-October, and many of the dates have sold out.
Meanwhile, Sevendust released their 14th studio album, “Truth Killer,” earlier this year. The band will embark on a tour with fellow metal bands Static-X and Dope this fall to promote the release. That tour kicks off Oct. 6 in Houston, Texas, and runs through early November.
