Sepultura, One of Metal’s Pioneers, Announce Farewell Tour
They say all good things must come to an end, and now, the end if here for Sepultura. The Brazilian metal giants have announced that they’re ending their 40-year run as a band, and they’re going out in style, with an 18-month farewell tour. Find Sepultura farewell tour dates below, as well as the band’s official statement.
Sepultura’s farewell tour will begin in the U.K. and Europe, but the band plans to announce North American farewell shows soon. In a passionate farewell statement from the band, Sepultura thanked fans for their undying support and even likened their retirement to “euthanasia.”
“Throughout the next 18 months we will celebrate 40 years of existence together along with our loyal fans on a farewell tour across the entire globe,” Sepultura wrote in a collective statement. “It will be a celebration of the past and the present for one final time. After four decades filled with ups and downs, having visited 80 countries and countless different cultures, we’ve had the chance to become Brazil’s messenger to the world and spread our colors and rhythms worldwide. With our latest studio album Quadra, a highlight of our career, we added an unforgettable chapter followed by the SepulQuarta experience that helped us to overcome the difficult times of the pandemic together. We will unite our forces for one final, strong farewell. And all of you can be a part of it.”
They added that during the tour, the band will record 40 live tracks in 40 different cities and release them in a compilation.
The band’s statement continued, “We are happy and very grateful for everything we could witness within the past four decades. We have released great albums and played unforgettable shows, cultivated friendships, met our idols, contributed to placing Brazilian metal on the world map, and therefore feel that we can leave the music scene with a sense of duty fulfilled. We’ve always had the best fans in the world, who supported us with praise and criticism, who were demanding and intelligent, who grew together with the band and have always been loyal. Without you, none of this would have been possible. This album and this tour are for you. Dear SepulNation – we love you and always will!”
Finally, they stated, “Euthanasia, the right to a dignified death. The right to choose to live free and to choose when you die!” A bit dramatic, perhaps?
Jinjer, Obituary and Jesus Piece will open on Sepultura’s U.K. and Europe farewell tour dates. Tickets go on sale starting on Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. CET here.
Founding Sepultura member Andreas Kisser spoke with Audio Ink Radio in 2021 about the state of metal music. “Heavy metal is the most popular style of music in the world, by far,” he said. “It’s the most faithful fans- the type of fans that don’t buy bootleg. They want to have the official stuff- the official shirt, the albums, lyrics, everything. You see Maiden fans and Kiss fans and Led Zeppelin and even Sepultura fans. We put out a lot of products that people just collect…That keeps the style alive and strong, because the money goes straight to the band and management and record label, not to people that are just taking advantage of some popular style of band, which is great. It’s very strong.”
