Joe Perry Says to ‘Stay Tuned’ for Aerosmith Tour News
Aerosmith certainly tried to go out in style. The guys were set to embark on their “Peace Out” farewell tour this year. But, they had to cut the tour short due to lead vocalist Steven Tyler suffering a vocal injury. But, the good news is that now, guitarist Joe Perry says to “stay tuned” for Aerosmith tour news.
Last September, Aerosmith took to social media to share the news that they would have to postpone their remaining farewell tour dates, to give Tyler time to recover. In the message, they wrote, “To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care.” The message added that, “He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.” They continued, stating, “All the currently scheduled ‘Peace Out’ shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.”
So, are those shows ever going to happen? In a new interview with The Boston Globe, Perry said that he and the guys of Aerosmith are hopeful that they’ll be able to get back on the road soon.
“We’re so bummed we missed our New Year’s Eve show,” Perry said in the interview. “But with any luck we will be back out late summer and fall of 24. And there’s always next New Year’s Eve! Stay tuned for that.”
So, if you’re hanging onto your Aerosmith tickets from this year, that’s good news. It sounds like the band is determined to make good on their promise for one final run of shows. According to Aerosmith, the group will honor all tickets for the postponed dates at the rescheduled shows. Once they announced the new shows, fans who can’t make the new dates will be able to get a full refund at the point of purchase.
Aerosmith announced their farewell tour dates in spring of 2023. Unfortunately, drummer Joey Kramer won’t be on the trek. At the time, the band explained Kramer’s absence, stating, “While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”
I do appreciate that Aerosmith are trying to do one proper farewell tour and not keep returning. Obviously, some other acts pretend to retire, only to hit the road a few years later. But, some things have to fall into place before this tour can pick up again. We wish Tyler a quick and speedy recover, so that he can get rocking again.
It’s worth noting that Aerosmith’s official website states “stay tuned for tour updates” on the tour page. Right now, though, they don’t even have one date in the books. For more on the rescheduling, go here.
