Vocalist Carla Harvey and Metal Band Butcher Babies Split
Carla Harvey was absent from Butcher Babies’ European tour last fall, as Harvey had to undergo emergency surgery on her left eye. Now, Butcher Babies and Harvey have confirmed the news that she’s no longer in the band.

Butcher Babies took to social media on Saturday (July 20) to break the news that founding member Carla Harvey is no longer in the band.
“As you may have already guessed, it is confirmed that Carla Harvey and Butcher Babies have officially parted ways,” the statement reads. “Carla has been an integral part of our journey, bringing her unique talent, passion, and energy to the band. We are grateful for the incredible memories we’ve made together and the impact she has had on our music and our fans. We will miss her greatly and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
The statement continues, “We deeply appreciate your support over the past 15 years. We feel incredibly fortunate to keep making and playing music as our career, and we are excited for this new era of Butcher Babies. See you on the road.”
Harvey also confirmed the news in a post on her social media, stating, “Over the last 6 months You may have noticed my absence from Butcher Babies posts. After 15 years of dedication, I wanted to let you know that I will not be rejoining the band for any future endeavors.”
Harvey added, “I am super proud of my work with Butcher Babies…2 EPS, 5 Full lengths albums and countless tours with our metal heroes! To all of our incredible Butcher Babies friends and fans…you have provided me with some of the greatest experiences of my life! I have loved every second of writing and performing all over the world for you! I have loved meeting you. WOW. I still can’t believe this kid from Detroit got so lucky.”
Harvey also indicated that she’ll continue to make music and perform, writing, “I am not done making music and performing. I WILL see you soon.”
While Harvey and the Butcher Babies camp are being secretive about why Harvey is leaving the group, she is looking to be busy in the coming months. In January, Harvey and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante announced that after several years of dating, they were engaged. So, she has a wedding to plan. Still, that usually doesn’t result in leaving your metal band.
Harvey was such a big part of Butcher Babies, so I think it’s really difficult to see them moving on without her. Time will tell if they bring on a second female vocalist to perform with Heidi Shepherd.
Last year, Shepherd did an interview with Audio Ink Radio about Butcher Babies and her love for music. “I’ve wanted to do music my entire life,” she said. “I grew up thinking, ‘I want to be a rock star.’ I grew up in music. My entire family plays music. My dad is actually the middle of 12 kids, and in his family, they’re a family band. So, every wedding, every family reunion, every funeral, everything that we would get together for, no matter what it was, there was always a band set up.”
