There should be no shame in getting therapy. Mental health is very important. But, unfortunately, sometimes, there is a kind of stigma that surrounds getting help. Thankfully, guys like former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg are proud of their therapy journeys. In a new interview, Weinberg discusses how therapy is helping him get over his shocking split with Slipknot.

Former Slipknot Drummer Jay Weinberg Talks Therapy

Jay Weinberg has been working with a therapist to help get through his breakup with Slipknot. The group split with the drummer in November of 2023 after a performance at a festival in Mexico. Slipknot took to social media to announce the news, and Weinberg seemed a bit shocked.

At the time, Weinberg took to social media to share, “I was heartbroken and blindsided to receive the phone call that I did on the morning of November 5th; the news of which, most of you learned shortly after. However, I’ve been overwhelmed by — and truly grateful for — the outpouring of love and support I’ve received from this incredible community I consider to be my creative and artistic home.” He added, “This is not the ending to the journey I’d dreamt of, and committed myself to seeing through — not by a long shot. But, despite the confusion and sadness, there is something that’s provided an equal amount of comfort. For many of you reading this: 10 years ago, we weren’t yet acquainted. And now, we are. For that, I’m thankful in ways I’ll never be able to fully express.”

Now, Weinberg says the split was so traumatic, he’s gone to a therapist to help heal the wounds.

“Truth be told, I’m at kind of a point where I’m not quite yet really ready to talk about [the split], really. And that’s not to dismiss the conversation, but I’ve spent time, and spend time, just processing the entire experience. And the experience not being the last six months, but really the last 10 years,” he said on the One Life One Chance With Toby Morse podcast.

He added, “I have a fantastic therapist who helps me. Before I speak on it, it’s important for me to do the right work of processing these events that, you know you spend 10 years exclusively committed to one thing. There’s a lot to process that on the other side… And I think there is definitely a time where I’ll speak to my lived experience over those 10 years — just not quite yet.”

Weinberg also gave hope of a book in the works. He said that writing has been helpful in getting through the pain of the breakup.

Later in the interview, he encouraged listeners to seek out the help of a therapist, if they need it. “They’re out there. It’s a worthwhile thing of searching for, if you need it,” he said. I think it’s great to see Weinberg so humble and being honest with fans about what he’s experiencing.
