Lzzy Hale Fuels Linkin Park Rumors with ‘Crawling’ Cover
Linkin Park has something in the works, but they’re really dragging it out. On Wednesday (Aug. 28), fans from around the world checked their computers and phones for a big Linkin Park announcement, which was teased to drop at 2:15 p.m. Eastern time. But, it didn’t. Instead, the countdown clock hit zero, and nothing happened.
Linkin Park Announcement Now Slated for Sept. 5
The uneventful moment was followed by a social post from Linkin Park, in which the band stated that the news drop on Sept. 5, “Be part of something. September 5th. LinkinPark.com,” they wrote.
It made sense, because on Wednesday, when Linkin Park’s countdown clock reached 00:00:00, the clock then began to tick back up. Some fans noticed a glitch at 00:09:05 and started guessing that the news would arrive on Sept. 5, instead.
Of course, with Linkin Park news coming, fans have been speculating that perhaps they’ll be touring or making music with a new singer. Many fans thought the band would get together with Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, who was teasing a big announcement for the same day. But, Whibley took to socials to tell the world that, no, he wasn’t Linkin Park’s new vocalist. Honestly, it wouldn’t have been the worst thing, in my opinion. His voice is suited to singing Chester Bennington’s tenor vocals.
“I feel the need to dispel some current rumors,” the Sum 41 singer posted on his social media accounts. “It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.”
Lzzy Hale Covers Linkin Park
Lzzy Hale is another vocalist speculated to step in for the late, great Bennington. She recently toured with Skid Row as their lead vocalist, so Hale is used to filing spots in major rock bands.
Hale posted a beautiful cover of Linkin Park’s “Crawling,” which has fans really wondering if she’ll be their new vocalist.
On the video, which you can watch below, fans posted comments such as, “Linkin Park singer?” and “Lzzy, is there anything you would like to tell us?” Another fan speculated that perhaps the Linkin Park announcement is an album with guest artists covering Bennington’s parts. Now, that’s something I would totally get behind. I personally think there is no Linkin Park without Chester, but if a bunch of artists were to get together and cover his songs in honor of him, I’d be all about it.
So far, Hale hasn’t publicly commented on the video or speculation, but you have to admit that it would be odd timing for her to post this right before a big Linkin Park announcement and not have it have something to do with that news.
Linkin Park have not toured since Bennington tragically took his own life in July 2017. The band did perform a tribute show that fall, but they haven’t played even one concert since then. A Linkin Park tour would likely get a lot of attendance, but as I said earlier, no Chester, no Linkin Park, in my opinion.
