Some bad news came out of the Queens of the Stone Age camp on Friday (Aug. 23), as the band has announced that they’ve canceled or postponed all of their remaining 2024 shows. The move is to make time for vocalist Josh Homme to “receive essential medical care.”

Queens of the Stone Age Cancel Shows

This isn’t the first time Queens of the Stone Age have been forced to cancel shows this year. Earlier this summer, the band had to pull out of a handful of stops on their European tour, as Homme had to travel back to the United States for emergency surgery. Then, the group went on to cancel additional European shows in August, and Jack White stepped in to fill in for them at select festivals.

The latest run of shows that have been canceled or postponed included a selection of North American concerts that were schedule to take place this fall. Those included headlining gigs in Boston, Cincinnati, Chicago and more. On the festival front, the band has pulled out of their scheduled appearances at the Soundside Music Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut; the Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, Tennessee; and the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City.

According to a statement from the band, they’re planning to reschedule the headlining shows for 2025 but not the festival showings.

In a statement to fans regarding the cancelations, Queens of the Stone Age wrote, “QOTSA regret to announce the cancellation and/or postponement of all remaining 2024 shows. Josh has been given no choice but to prioritize his health and to receive essential medical care throughout the remainder of the year. Josh and the QOTSA family are so thankful for your support and the time we were able to spend together over the last year. Hope to see you all again in 2025.”

They added that, “Festival ticket holders are advised to visit specific event sites for updated information. Ticket holders for QOTSA shows will be contacted by point of purchase with further information about the new dates.”

Queens of the Stone Age broke out in the early 2000s with their breakout album, “Songs for the Deaf.” The set featured the hits “Go with the Flow” and “No One Knows.” I remember seeing the band at a small venue in downtown Detroit right as that album dropped. Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters even made a special appearance at that show on drums. Grohl is a frequent collaborator with the band but doesn’t often play with them live.

So far, the Queens of the Stone Camp has been tight-lipped on Homme’s specific health concerns. But, in June 2023, Homme did come out in an interview and say he was diagnosed with an unspecified cancer the year prior. In November 2023, he announced that he was free from cancer.

The staff at Audio Ink Radio wishes Homme a full and quick recovery. Find the specific roster of canceled shows via Queens of the Stone Age’s Instagram account. Currently, the band’s official website listing upcoming tour dates has none posted.
