Perry Farrell Punches Dave Navarro During Jane’s Addiction Show
Jane’s Addiction is the kind of band that you would expect to get along well at this point, because they’ve truly been together for decades. But, during a Jane’s Addiction show on Friday (Sept. 13), Jane’s Addiction lead vocalist Perry Farrell actually punched guitarist Dave Navarro, which quickly ended the show. The band has been on tour this summer, so it makes it even more surprising that after weeks on the road together, suddenly, this outburst would happen.
Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro Onstage Feud: Report
During Jane’s Addiction’s concert in Boston on Friday, Farrell got into a physical confrontation with Navarro in front of the audience. Farrell, yes, even punched Navarro. Footage from the show, which was at Leader Bank Pavilion, shows Navarro performing a solo during the song “Ocean Size.” According to Setlist.com, that was the 11th song in the set. During the guitar solo, Farrell walks over to Navarro and shoved him. The two started yelling at each other, and Navarro tried to hold Farrell back. That’s when Farrell punched Navarro in his upper torso, and that’s when the show ended. It’s worth noting that according to JamBase‘s social media accounts, some issues between Navarro and Farrell began during the ninth song of the night, “Mountain Song,” and continued through the altercation.
The crew at the show and bass player Eric Avery grabbed Farrell and took him backstage. Later, Navarro, Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins went to the front of the stage and say goodnight to the audience.
A photographer at the show, Brian Mackenzie, took to X to state, “Perry had a huge bottle of wine with him all evening, Navarro and Avery kept chatting with each other the whole show and seemed angrier than normal.”
He added, “Everyone (us included) thought it was a bit. A weird one, but, like, it was almost encore time and it seemed like ONE way to have the band leave the stage (only to return to thunderous applause) but .. 2 minutes later, house lights and walk-out music and show was over!”
Since the show was already about 11 songs in, it appears it was almost over, anyway, since Setlist.com shows that the show usually lasts around 12 to 15 songs. But, I’m thinking some audience members were still disappointed.
Blabbermouth.net noted that, “This has not been a good week for Farrell, who was reportedly in rough shape when Jane’s Addiction’s classic lineup played at the Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City on Tuesday (September 10). However, he managed to pull it together for Wednesday’s concert at the same venue.”
This year was the first time the full classic lineup of Jane’s Addiction toured together in 14 years. While the band has been touring in the past few years, Navarro was dealing with long COVID, so he didn’t appear at many of the shows. He had been away from the group when Avery rejoined the lineup in 2022, so this was his first time back up there with them on a tour. Needless to say, it didn’t go well.
Longer vid of fight that brought tonight's Jane's Addiction show to an early end.
Problems started in "Mountain Song" when Perry shouted at Dave. Issues got worse in "Three Days" + boiled over in "Ocean Size."
