David Gilmour Gives 2-Word Response to If Pink Floyd Will Reunite
If you’re wondering if classic rock band Pink Floyd will ever reunite, you’re not alone. Pink Floyd is one of the most legendary and celebrated classic rock bands out of the 1970s, and founding members David Gilmore and Roger Waters are both still very active in the music world, so it would make sense that fans would hope, one day, the two would patch things up and reunite. Now, Gilmour is giving a blunt response to the question of whether the band will ever get back together.
David Gilmour Answer the Perennial Pink Floyd Question
If you’re hoping that Pink Floyd will reunite, don’t hold your breath. According to Gilmour, there’s really no situation that could bring Gilmour and Waters together to perform as Pink Floyd again.
In a Q&A with The Guardian, a fan asked if Gilmour and Waters could reunion, and he had a two-word response: “Absolutely not.”
He added, “I tend to steer clear of people who actively support genocidal and autocratic dictators like Putin and Maduro (president of Venezuela). Nothing would make me share a stage with someone who thinks such treatment of women and the LGBT community is OK.”
Wow. So, Gilmour certainly spoke his mind on whether he and Rogers could ever patch things up, and it sounds like a bigger difference than just music. The two don’t see eye-to-eye on a lot, so it’s not surprising that they say it will never happen. However, just think of the long list of bands that have said they would never get back together but did. Guns N’ Roses famously said they would never tour after breaking up in the ’90s, and they went on to have their blockbuster “Not In This Lifetime” tour, which is one of the highest-grossing tours of all time. Oasis recently announced a reunion, which nobody thought would happen. Motley Crue also “retired” and got back together, and they’re still touring today. Even Kiss has retired a bunch only to get back together and tour. While the latter two bands didn’t “break up,” it still shows that when bands say they’re done, they aren’t always done.
Gilmour went on to shower praise on some of the other members of Pink Floyd.
“On the other hand, I’d love to be back on stage with Rick Wright,” Gilmour said, talking about the late Pink Floyd keyboardist, who passed away in 2008, calling him, “one of the gentlest and most musically gifted people I’ve ever known.”
David Gilmour Has a Love for Carpentry
Elsewhere in the interview, Gilmour dished on a hidden love he has for carpentry.
“I’ve always loved carpentry. I’ve made things out of wood pretty much my whole life, from boot removers to tables, to treehouses, to boathouses,” he said. “The insurance chaps are not overly keen on me doing that in case I chop my fingers off.”
He also talked about his famed “Comfortably Numb” guitar solo, stating, “The music I wrote that I play over that solo is a simple but effective, inspiring sequence. It’s very nice to play over, and every time I play it, it means something different.”
