Beloved Heavy Metal Band Announce Reunion Show
Whenever a band tells you that they’re retiring, don’t believe them. There have just been too many bands who say they’re retiring only to swift gears a few years later and reunite for reunion shows. Not to put that down, because it can be a great thing when a band that you think was done for comes back better than ever. But, it just goes to show that when a band calls it quits, you never really know for sure if they’re throwing in the towel.
In that spirit, heavy metal band Slayer have been announced as headliners for the 2025 Louder Than Life festival, scheduled for September 18 through the 21 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Metal Band Slayer is Back at Louder Than Life Festival
The Slayer announcement is a special one, because it comes after the thrash metal band had to bow out of their 2024 appearance at the festival due to Hurricane Helene. Louder than Life wasn’t called off last month, and three days of the 2024 edition did happen, but the night that Slayer were scheduled to perform was nixed due to the hurricane, so they didn’t perform. So, consider next year’s festival appearance a makeup date, so long as another hurricane doesn’t ruin it.
“We can’t wait to welcome fans back to finish what we started this year and celebrate the return of Slayer,” festival promoter Danny Wimmer said in a statement regarding the metal band being added to the bill. “Our team is hard at work finalizing an incredible lineup that we can’t wait to reveal this winter. It’s going to be epic, and we can’t wait to see everyone back in Louisville next September.”
On day two of the festival last month, a downpouring of rain and dangerous winds forced promoters and organizers to cancel Day 2 of the festival after delaying opening gates. Attendees missed seeing a range of acts who were scheduled to perform that day, including Anthrax, Evanescence, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and more. Friday ticket holders and four-day pass holders were offered the chance to see Slayer at the Aftershock festival, also presented by Wimmer, in Sacramento, California, earlier this month, but considering that most Louder than Life attendees lived closer to Louisville, Kentucky, than Sacramento, it’s not likely the majority of them were able to make the trip happen.
Louder than Life, though, is making up for the Slayer performance being called off, as Danny Wimmer Presents has also announced that single-day Friday ticket holders for the 2024 edition of Louder Than Life will get a full refund, and four-day pass holders will get a 25% refund.
In other news, Slayer guitarist Kerry King and his solo band are set to hit the road on a North American tour early next year. Speaking with Audio Ink Radio in an exclusive interview, King talked about the Slayer reunion, stating, “Yeah, you know, at the end of the day, it wasn’t bad blood. Tom (Araya) was just done. And, when Tom told me he was done, I went, okay… What we retired from was touring. We never said we were done playing. We said it was our final tour, and I don’t think three shows constitute a tour, so if you want to get technical, I think we’re in the ballpark of being truthful.”
