Taylor Swift has lots of fans across the globe, and some of those fans aren’t necessarily what you would expect from a pop star’s fan. Now, Swift has gotten praise from a very unlikely person. It’s another musician, and chances are, the fans of this musician would be pretty shocked to hear that he’s a big fan of Swift.

Metal Musician Praises Taylor Swift and Pop Stars

Judas Priest is one of the biggest heavy metal bands on the planet. Vocalist Rob Halford is a legacy musician and has spent decades touring the planet, spreading the good word about heavy metal music. But, Halford actually likes some pop music. There’s nothing wrong with switching up genres once in a while, but some metal purists could be surprised to hear the Halford loves metal.

In an October 21 interview with the Houston Chronicle, Halford was asked which pop artists are on his current playlist. He mentioned a few, including Taylor Swift, who is currently on the groundbreaking Eras Tour, and Lady Gaga.

“Chappell (Roan) is amazing. I turned on to Gaga instantly,” he said. “Her talent is just extraordinary. And she says she’s a huge fan of Chappell. The way that the torch is passed from performer to performer, artist to artist, it’s a beautiful thing to do.”

He then praised the “longevity” of pop artists, including Swift, stating, “What’s remarkable about people like Gaga or Taylor Swift is their longevity. They’re called pop artists. Is that the right word to call them? I don’t know. But pop, for as long as I can remember, for the most part, and don’t get me wrong here, it’s almost dispensable because there’s so much of it. It’s such a beautiful expression. It’s like catching fireflies. Pop songs can be gigantic, and then you’ll never hear them again.”

Halford continued, “But then you’ll get a Madonna or a Cher or a Gaga, or hopefully Chappell or a Taylor Swift. The way they craft their music, it becomes immortal. I’ll still be banging my head to ‘Paparazzi’ on my deathbed. I don’t know whether it’s because I’m a gay man and I just have this joy and love of all things creative and arts, I absorb it. I don’t believe in barriers. I don’t believe in walls. I don’t believe in censorship. I think that all music is a feast. All of it touches me in various ways. And I translate all of that into my own work.”

Rob Halford Finds Inspiration in Pop Music

What’s especially interesting about that statement is that Halford says he translates that pop music into his work. When asked to elaborate on that, he said, “I get inspiration from all sources of music that I enjoy, which might sound nuts, but that’s how music should be absorbed. You can re-translate any form of music.”

Judas Priest released their latest album, “Invincible Shield,” in March 2024, and it received a 9.5/10 rating from Audio Ink Radio. Rob Halford has said that he expects the band to continue making new music, even more than 50 years into their career. So, he’s not ready for retirement yet.
