It’s always a sad thing when a longtime band parts with their lead vocalist, because the lead singer is such a big part of any band’s sound and identity. But, it happens, and the show often goes on with another singer. Even if that new singer is fantastic, it’s easy to miss the previous singer. Now, one modern rock band is back with their original lead vocalist and has released their first song back with him.

That band is Three Days Grace. The modern rockers, who are often arm wrestling with Shinedown for the modern rock band to have the highest numbers rock No. 1 rock hits, is back with their original vocalist, Adam Gontier. Now, the Canadian rockers have released their first track since welcoming Gontier back into the fold.

Three Days Grace Release ‘Mayday’ With Original Vocalist

This is a case of “make new friends, but keep the old,” as the new single features vocals from both Gontier and new Three Days Grace vocalist Matt Walst. Of course, Walst is the guy who replaced Gontier when the latter left the band in 2013. Walst will stay on and co-front Three Days Grace with Gontier, so it’s all smiles.

The new song, “Mayday,” features a mix of super heavy active rock and more pop-infused and buzzy alternative rock. With these two styles swapping throughout the song, “Mayday” should please a variety of fans, from those who like harder-edged rock to more experimental alternative. Zakk Cervini and Dan Lancaster produced the song, and Howard Benson did the vocal production.

On top of the song, the band has also released a music video for “Mayday.” The clip features Gontier and Walst co-piloting an airplane that’s scarily experiencing some troublesome turbulence. CiRCUS HEaD directed the music video.

‘Mayday’ is a ‘Reflection of the Current State of the World’

As for the meaning behind the song, according to the band, it’s very indicative of the times in which we’re living.

“This song is a reflection of the current state of the world, an unsettling mix of disillusionment, exhaustion, and denial,” the band stated in a collective statement. “The sense that we’re all on the brink — emotionally, socially, and environmentally, yet we refuse to admit defeat. So even though we feel like we are barely surviving we keep on moving forward, one foot in front of the other.”

Many Three Days Grace fans have been anticipating a new song from the band ever since it was announced that Gontier was back in the group in October. They’ll get to see the group perform the song live, as Three Days Grace, with Gontier in the fold, will serve as support on Disturbed’s massive 2025 North American tour in 2025. That trek kicks off on February 25 and runs through much of next year. In addition to touring in support of Disturbed, Three Days Grace are also slated to appear at several U.S. rock festivals in 2025, including Inkcarceration, Sick New World, Sonic Temple, Welcome to Rockville and Inkcarceration. More tour dates are pending.
