Iconic ’90s Grunge Rock Band Announces New Tour Dates
When it comes to 1990s grunge, many of the biggest names are Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. While, sadly, the vocalists for Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains have passed away, Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder, knock on wood, is still here, making music and touring, both with Pearl Jam and his solo work.
Now, Pearl Jam have announced a new string of U.S. tour dates set for spring 2025, keeping the legacy of grunge rock alive.
Grunge Favorite Pearl Jam Announce 2025 Tour Dates
Pearl Jam’s 2025 tour packs 10 dates, setting off in late April with two shows in Hollywood, Florida, and taking the band through a handful of markets before wrapping up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on May 18. Pre-sale tickets are available now, and tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, December 13, at 10 a.m. local venue time via Ticketmaster.
Also, to try to keep tickets “fairly priced,” tickets will be non-transferable as permitted and Pearl Jam will use all-in pricing, per a press release. The group is also selling approximately 10% of tickets via PJ Premium to help offset increased costs.
The new Pearl Jam tour dates come just a few days after closing out their Dark Matter world tour, so the band is keeping that momentum going. The band is touring on their latest album, 2024’s “Dark Matter,” which Rolling Stone calls a “jam-packed with fist-pumping rockers, stunning songwriting, and melodies tailor-made to be shouted with the windows down.”
Recording for “Dark Matter” took place at Shangri-La Studios with the “entire band playing together with a burst of inspiration,” according to a statement from the band. As for artwork, “Dark Matter” features light painting art by Alexandr Gnezdilov.
Pearl Jam Touring Behind Their ‘Dark Matter’ Album
Regarding “Dark Matter,” Pitchfork says the album has “alluring testimonials, but the reality is less dramatic. ‘Dark Matter’ plays like another solid late-era Pearl Jam record, reliable but not revelatory, with the requisite well-honed mix of generic fist-pumpers, roiling ballads, and mid-tempo gems where Vedder gets a chance to howl and yearn and babble in the upper registers as only Vedder can.”
Pitchfork adds of the grunge set, “As ever, he evokes a potent balance of pain and perseverance, but the album is marred by boilerplate rockers that try to confront fascist dread with platitudes and banal expressions of resistance.”
“Dark Matter” debuted in the top five on the Billboard 200. At the time, Billboard stated, “Pearl Jam debuts at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart (dated May 4) with its latest studio album, Dark Matter, marking the 13th top 10-charting effort for the band. The set launches with a little over 59,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending April 25, according to Luminate.”
Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard spoke with Audio Ink Radio in 2021 to talk about Gossard’s record label, Loosegroove Records. They also talked about new Pearl Jam music at the time, and Gossard promised, “Pearl Jam will definitely be back.”
