Getting ready to attend a music festival is always exciting. Sometimes, if you’re traveling from out of town, you have to spend time and effort making arrangements to get to that festival, including transportation, where you’re going to stay and more. So, it’s a bummer when a music festival suddenly cancels, but that’s the case with a major rock music festival that’s suddenly canceled its 2025 edition.

Music Festival Won’t Return in 2025

The 2025 edition of Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, has been canceled. The one-day festival was scheduled to happen at Las Vegas Festival Grounds on April 12th, 2025, so at least organizers game festivalgoers time to cancel their travel plans.

The Sick New World festival’s lineup featured some huge names, including Metallica and Linkin Park, which makes the cancelation even more surprising. Other acts set to play included Queens of the Stone Age, Evanescence, Gojira, AFI, Tomahawk, Ministry, Tomahawk, Acid Bath and more.

Organizers took to social media to announce the festival’s cancelation in a statement released on Friday, November 29.

“Despite our best efforts, we’ve encountered unforeseen circumstances that we are unable to overcome for next year’s show,” they stated. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated SNW fans who had made plans to join us for another cultural celebration of hard rock, goth, alternative, and heavy music. Please stay tuned for further and future information regarding Sick New World.” They added that tickets will be automatically refunded to the original method of payment within 30 days.

Some buzz about the Sick New World festival being called off actually started earlier this week, when Tomahawk’s Trevor Dunn told the podcast “The Vinyl Guide” in an interview that the event was “not happening,” according to Blunt via BrooklynVegan. “I am probably not supposed to talk about this, but it’s not happening,” Dunn added, raising more than a few eyebrows at the time. “It’ll come out in the wash soon, but basically, the festival is not happening. We had a whole tour, we had a two-week thing built around that, which we can’t do now because financially it doesn’t make any sense, so yeah, that’s not happening.”

The History of Sick New World Festival

Sick New World started in 2023 as a nu-metal revival festival, so it’s only been around two years. In 2025, the festival booked a more mainstream roster, with Metallica and Linkin Park serving as headliners, and also raised the cost of tickets. One could wonder if higher ticket prices or the change in the lineup resulted in lower interest, but there’s no official word on that.

“Wow I wonder if it was poor ticket sales?” one fan asked on X. “Good on paper but not in reality,” another stated. “Hopefully Metallica can do a show in Vegas that weekend or after the Denver shows in June they are the only reason i bought tickets to the festival,” another said. Of course, these are just fans’ opinions. Who knows what really happened, but hopefully the event will be back in 2026.
