When a band has been around for decades and is considered part of the classic rock genre, one might wonder when they’re going to throw in the towel. But, some classic rock bands just keep going and continue to create new music, year after year. It’s comforting, in a way, to get new music from bands that have been around for a long time, because their sound is familiar, but you’re still getting something new and different from them.

Now, one beloved classic rock band has announced yet another new album, making it their third since 2022.

Popular Classic Rock Band Announces New Album, ‘Curious Ruminant’

Classic rockers Jethro Tull released two new studio albums in 2022 and 2023, and now, they’re back with another. On Friday, January 10, the band announced “Curious Ruminant,” their latest studio record, which will drop on Friday, March 7.

The new album will feature nine new songs “varying in length from two and half minutes to almost seventeen minutes,” according to a statement from the band. They also note that “this is an album of mostly full band music.”

Musicians featured on the release are former keyboardist Andrew Giddings and drummer James Duncan, as well as the current band members David Goodier, John O’Hara, Scott Hammond and Jack Clark. For Clark, “Curious Ruminant” marks his first time recording with the group.

On top of the album announcement, Jethro Tull have released the album’s title track with a music video by Costin Chioreanu. Pre-orders for the record are available now.

“Ian Anderson had been saying for months following the release of RökFlöte that he would embark on a new project in late 2023,” a statement from the band explains. “He waited only a few weeks before the first notions began to solidify into some drafted words of intent and in May 2024, some unfinished music recorded earlier with John O’Hara, David Goodier and James Duncan became the starting point for the new songs as they took shape.”

New Release is on a ‘More Personal Level’

The band adds that writing the songs for the new album “came very quickly” once Anderson “began in earnest during June and just seemed to slot right in to the musical feel and styles of the earlier recordings.”

So, what should fans expect from the release? It’s in line to be quite different for Jethro Tull, at least when it comes to the themes on the album. According to a statement, Anderson’s writing on the release “is often on a more personal level of lyric content than we are used to hearing.”

The statement adds that in addition to Anderson’s “observational descriptions are the slightly more heart-on-sleeve moments of soul-baring – albeit not on the topics more often paraded by the usual I-me lyric merchants of pop and rock.”

They also say to expect this album to bring to mind band’s “heritage” of the ’70s.
