Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale Reveals Hilarious Breakup Story
Everybody has their own deal breakers in a relationship. Cheating is often a big one. Not enjoying the same kinds of activities can also be a deal break for some. But, for music enthusiasts, not liking the same music can truly be a deal breaker. If you can’t go to rock and metal concerts with your sweetheart, what’s the point?
In that spirit, Halestorm vocalist Lzzy Hale has shared a hilarious story about why she once broke up with a guy. It’s music-related and totally sounds like a reason for a breakup between two people who didn’t see eye-to-eye on the same sounds.
Lzzy Hale Shares Funny and Totally Appropriate Breakup Story
In a January 3 feature for Guitar Player magazine, Hale talked about the 10 albums that most changed her life. One of her choices was Tool’s 2001 album, “Lateralus.”
“My little bro [and Halestorm drummer] Arejay was getting really good on the drums,” Hale said. “He had learned Tool’s song ‘Schism’ from the radio, so I thought that I should get him the whole album for his birthday.”
She added, “We just devoured it. I ended up getting really into it myself. Listening to their music was just like watching a horror film.”
Then, Hale went on to tell the story of how she broke up with a guy who fell asleep during a Tool concert. Sure, it’s relaxing music, at time, but not that relaxing.
As Hale described it, she had tickets to see Tool at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. She was going to go with her bother Arejay, but he got in trouble with their parents, so they wouldn’t let him go to the concert.
“I thought, ‘Okay, this could be an opportunity to ask somebody out on a date,’ which I did,” she said. “I asked this guy Nate, and he said, ‘Yes.’ I was like, ‘Sweet.’ We didn’t have great seats, but it didn’t matter.”
Hale added that, “The show was amazing. I was singing every word. Halfway through, I looked at my date and saw that he had fallen asleep.” She deemed it a “total deal-breaker” for her.
Tool Album Was a ‘Life-Changer’ for Hale
Hale says that, “So, in a weird way, Tool’s ‘Lateralus’ was a life-changer. My brother still teases me about it: ‘I wouldn’t have fallen asleep.'”
One can’t help but wonder if this Nate guy has been following Hale’s music career and is kicking himself for falling asleep during that fateful night. He could have been Mr. Hale, after all. But, according to Hale, him falling asleep during Tool was enough to end the relationship. She didn’t mention if the two kept in touch as friends.
Halestorm are currently working on their upcoming sixth studio album, which doesn’t have a release date yet. Halestorm’s upcoming set isn’t included in Audio Ink Radio’s tally of the most anticipated albums of 2025, because the band hasn’t made it clear whether they’ll release the new tunes this year. But, one of the albums we’re looking forward to it Lacuna Coil’s “Sleepless Empire,” which will drop on February 14 and follow up their 2019 release, “Black Anima.”
