Legendary Metal Band Announces New Vocalist
Whenever a band splits with their lead vocalist, it’s always a difficult thing, because the vocalist is often the focal point of the band. Now, a longtime metal band has announced that they’re parting ways with their lead singer and already have a new singer in toe.
The new vocalist was in the band before, though, so they’re keeping it in the family, so to speak.
‘New Chapter Begins’ for Longstanding Thrash Metal Band
Thrash greats Exodus have announced that they’re splitting with longtime vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza. They’ve also announced that they’re getting back together with previous vocalist Rob Dukes.
In a message posted to the group’s social media pages, Exodus state that they’ve parted ways with Zetro and “thank Steve for his years fronting the band and all the killer music we made during that time.”
Exodus added in the collective statement, “We wish him only the best in the future and much success with anything he does. And please help us welcome Rob Dukes back to EXODUS. We are beyond stoked to have Rob back ripping up the stage with us and he’s looking forward to crushing everything like only he can. Next chapter begins, new record rolls along as planned and the beatings will continue. See you soon, EXODUS.”
Souza’s last handful of years with Exodus marked his third time fronting the band. He was replaced by Dukes in 2005, before coming back to replace Dukes in 2014. Souza first joined the band in 1986 and left in 1993, at that time providing vocals on the albums “Pleasures of the Flesh” and “Fabulous Disaster.”
Dukes appears on all of Exodus’ releases from 2005’s “Shovel Headed Kill Machine” through 2010’s “Exhibit B: The Human Condition.” When he wasn’t in Exodus, he stayed active in his other band, Generation Kill.
Exodus’ upcoming album will mark their follow-up to 2021’s “Persona Non Grata.”
Zetro Talks Metal Music and Fans
Zetro spoke with of Audio Ink Radio about “Persona Non Grata” and said that he believed the album was the band’s best.
“This one hits on all cylinders, and we’re all much more mature musicians, let alone people,” he said. “So, I think the best stuff is definitely yet to come, but this album, if I had to look back on everything, it holds up to every singe one of them. If not holds more than everyone one of them. This record doesn’t let down.”
Zetro also spoke about how he believes the metal genre can only exist with both the fans and performers keeping the scene relevant and vibrant.
“It doesn’t exist without each other,” he said. “It’s the only form of music that has to have both. The musicians, we couldn’t survive without the fans, and the fans aren’t going to get it anywhere else, because there’s no media that plays it for them. Nobody cares.”
He added, “So, we have each other, which is fine. I’ve always said, you’ve never heard a guy come up and say, ‘Yeah, man, I was into Slayer last summer.’ That doesn’t happen. You’re either a metalhead or you’re not.”
