Metal Vocalist Makes Announcement on New Band
As the years go by, musicians leave certain bands and join others. It’s always a happy thing when a band member who’s left a group finds a new home, and that’s the case with one metal vocalist who has just announced a new home.
That singer is Carla Harvey, formerly of Butcher Babies. Even though she’s no longer a member of Butcher Babies, she’s still keeping very active in music.
Now, Harvey has joined longtime industrial dance band Lords of Acid as the band’s new vocalist.
Carla Harvey Joins Lords of Acid
In Lords of Acid, Harvey will not only record a new album with the group but also tour when them on an upcoming U.S. run. While tour dates have yet to be announced, the trek is expected to take place in June. Harvey has also been busy with her own new band, The Violent Hour.
Commenting on joining Lords of Acid, Harvey said, according to Blabbermouth, “I had three favorite bands in high school: Guns N’ Roses, Pantera and Lords of Acid. Each one shaped me and uniquely influenced me as an artist. LOA had me hooked from the moment I heard ‘I Sit on Acid’ as a teenager dancing the night away at Detroit’s goth Industrial Haven City Club.”
She added that her “obsession with LOA only grew after I saw Coop’s artwork on the cover of Voodoo-U.” That shoudn’t be a surprise, because Harvey is a talented artist herself and often paints. Now, she says that she gets “to record an album and go on tour with my industrial heroes.”
In the statement, she also commented on the Violent Hour and said the group would release their first single in February.
Lords of Acid’s manager Marc Jordan also commented on Harvey joining the band, stating, “Carla is set to begin recording vocals for the band’s new album this winter and will be joining the band on a 27-date U.S. tour in June.”
Lords of Acid also features original members Praga Khan and Olivier Adams. Throughout the years, Lords of Acid have welcomed several various female lead vocalists.
Carla Harvey’s Time in Butcher Babies
Harvey was in metal band Butcher Babies for 15 years and held down vocal duties with co-vocalist Heidi Shepherd. She announced that she was leaving the metal group in July of 2024 and said she wanted to try new opportunities.
“Over the last 6 months, you may have noticed my absence from Butcher Babies posts,” she said in a statement at the time. “After 15 years of dedication, I wanted to let you know that I will not be rejoining the band for any future endeavors.”
In some personal news, Harvey also became engaged to Anthrax and Pantera drummer Charlie Benante last year. The two got engaged in January 2024 while attending U2’s residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. In 2021, Benante spoke with Audio Ink Radio about how they met and eventually became an item. He said the metal couple met each other on the festival circuit and happened to have a lot in common, such as dark art. “We were both kind of interested in the same type of things, like goofy, nerdy” stuff, he said.
