Rock Hall 2025 Nominees Highlight a Mix of Genres

While the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has the word “rock” in its title, for years now, the Rock Hall has recognized artists from all genres. It’s led some music enthusiasts to wonder why they don’t just call it the Music Hall of Fame. But, it’s the Rock Hall, and at least they do highlight some rock and metal talent amid the other genres.
Now, the Rock Hall has announced its tally of 2025 nominees, and the list features a blend of genres, as usual, from classic rock to pop to rap.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2025 Nominees
The 2025 Rock Hall nominees include the White Stripes, Soundgarden, Mariah Carey, Oasis, OutKast, Phish, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Idol, Maná (the first Spanish-language band ever nominated), Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, Bad Company and the Black Crowes. The Oasis nomination comes at a good time, since the band recently reunited after years of saying that they’d never play together again.
In order to be eligible for nomination, an individual performer or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. So, some of these nominees are being up for the honor for the first time ever, including OutKast, Phish, Idol, Cocker, Checker, Bad Company and the Black Crowes.
This being the first nomination for Bad Company, band members Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke spoke with Billboard about the band’s nomination. Rodgers thanked friends and supporters of the group for the well-deserved nom, stating that they “have been lobbying for this nomination persistently for years and they never gave up, so big thanks to them.”
Kirke said that he got a bit emotional about it, stating, “It has rankled me a bit. We’ve been around a long time, and we’ve influenced a lot of bands, and I think it’s a place that we deserve.”
The Black Crowes band members also seem to be happy for the nomination. Even though singer Chris Robinson has said some negative things about the Rock Hall in the past, he told Billboard that he and the group are “thrilled” to be up for induction.
“Just to be mentioned [alongside] some of the names of the greatest artists, it’s fantastic,” Robinson said.
Details on Voting for the Rock Hall’s 2025 Class
The final Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will be announced in late April, and those who are selected will be inducted during a special ceremony taking place in Los Angeles this fall.
The inductees will be selected by an international voting body consisting of more than 1,200 artists, historians and people in the music industry, as well as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s website.
Last year, the musicians and bands inducted into the Rock Hall were Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band, Cher, A Tribe Called Quest, Mary J. Blige, Peter Frampton, Foreigner and Kool & The Gang.
