It’s going to be a bittersweet year for Ozzy Osbourne, because while he’s still being creative and has even released music as of late, he’ll be playing his final shows with both Black Sabbath and his solo band. While it will be difficult to see Osbourne play his final live show, it’s a gift to the heavy metal world that he’s been around as long as he has and given metalheads such great music.
At the heart of Osbourne’s health issues is that the 76-year-old is dealing with Parkinson’s Disease and fighting that disease. But, it’s not all doom and gloom for Osbourne, as he’s received some good news regarding his latest bit of music.
Ozzy Osbourne and Billy Morrison Riding High
Osbourne and Billy Morrison have teamed up for some songs in 2024 and 2025, and the latest release, 2025’s “Gods of Rock N Roll,” arrived in mid-February. The song is a remake of sorts from Osbourne and Morrison of their 2015 song, “Gods of Rock N Roll,” but with the addition of a 61-piece orchestra. The track first appeared on Morrison’s 2015 album, “God Shaped Hole.” Ozzy co-wrote and contributed vocals to the original song. On top of the added orchestra, the new version also features additional guitar work from Steve Stevens.
When the song was released in February, it quickly notched a spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, even before the song had officially been released. Radio stations often get singles to play before the tracks are out, so that sheds some light into how this happened.
Now, the latest bit of good news is that “Gods of Rock N Roll” is climbing the charts. According to Forbes, the song debuted on two new Billboard charts, including the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart and Hot Hard Rock Songs chart.
The song comes in at No. 5 on the Hot Rock Digital Song Sales chart and No. 12 on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart. The latter chart, “takes into account all forms of consumption,” including “sales, streams and airplay,” according to Hugh McIntyre of Forbes in a feature published Friday, February 28.
“Gods of Rock N Roll” is also already inside the Top 20 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, coming in at No. 16 this week.
Billy Morrison Says He and Ozzy Osbourne ‘Breathed New Life’ Into Song
Of the new version of the song, Morrison comments, “Ozzy and I have breathed new life into what we always felt was a huge song.” He adds that the song “was written ten years ago in a South American hotel room, but with this re-recording we both feel we have finally made the song what it was always meant to be – a huge emotive ballad.”
He continues, “A huge portion of the song was completely re-recorded, the 61 piece Budapest Scoring Orchestra recorded the orchestral score composed by Fred Coury, and then the John Burroughs High School choir were added. Barry Pointer had the unenviable task of mixing 132 tracks and he did an incredible job. The end result is what happens when Ozzy Osbourne makes some suggestions, and Billy Morrison listens.”
