Ozzy Osbourne is getting ready to appear at his final show ever on July 5, heading up the original lineup of Black Sabbath and also appearing with his solo band at a once-in-a-lifetime event. But, there have been concerns about his health, which is nothing new. Osbourne has been struggling with his health for years now, between being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and dealing with multiple surgeries, and he’s also been known to cancel shows and entire tours due to his health.
Now, Osbourne is staying that he will absolutely, 100% perform in July at what is being called as his final concert. Speaking with the Guardian’s Alexis Petridis in an interview published Friday, May 2, along with his Black Sabbath bandmates, Osbourne said regarding the upcoming show, “I’ll be there, and I’ll do the best I can. So all I can do is turn up.”
That might not sound too convincing, but at least Ozzy promises that he will be there. The show, called Back to the Beginning, is set to take place at the band’s Villa Park in Birmingham and offer an A-list lineup of metal and rock artists, including Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax.
Maynard James Keenan Comments on Ozzy Osbourne’s Health
Last week, Maynard James Keenan of Tool, who is also performing at the event, talked about that chance of Osbourne getting to perform at the event. He sounded hopeful but not convinced, too.
“I’m cautious about saying, ‘Yeah. All in, he’s gonna do it,'” Maynard James Keenan told Loudwire Nights. “I don’t know what kind of modern miracles we’ll come up with to get him on stage to do the songs, but this is going to be a challenge for them. So, I’m honored to be a part of it, but I’m kind of preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best.”
In April, Osbourne made an appearance on SiriusXM’s Ozzy Speaks on the Ozzy’s Boneyard channel and talked about a training regimen he is doing to get him ready to play his final show at the Back to the Beginning festival.
“It is endurance training,” Osbourne said. “The first thing to go when you’re laid up is your stamina. So believe it or not, I’m doing two sets of three-minute walks and weight training. I’m going and going, you know?”
He added, “I’m waking up in my body. I mean, three minutes to you, for instance, is nothing. But I’ve been laying on my back recovering from umpteen surgeries.”
Osbourne added, “I’m not planning on doing a set with Black Sabbath but I am doing little bits and pieces with them. I am doing what I can, where I feel comfortable.”
Ozzy Osbourne Talks Mental Health
Speaking to the Guardian, Osbourne talked about the psychological impact of his heath battles. It’s not easy. “You wake up the next morning and find that something else has gone wrong,” he said. “You begin to think this is never going to end.” He added that the reunion concert was the idea of his wife, Sharon, as “something to give me a reason to get up in the morning.”
Once again, Osbourne said he will not do a full set. “We’re only playing a couple of songs each. I don’t want people thinking ‘we’re getting ripped off,’ because it’s just going to be … what’s the word? … a sample, you’re going to get a few songs each by Ozzy and Sabbath.”
