It’s always an exciting thing when a band releases new music, and that’s even more so the case when that band is back with its original vocalist. Over the years, groups lose members all the time, but sometimes, those members come back, and that is totally cause for celebration.
Just look at the bands that have split up and reunited over the decades. From Guns N’ Roses to to Motley Crue to Kiss, these bands just never seem to go away.
Now, one longtime post-grunge band is releasing new music with their original vocalist. For those who are fans of early-2000s post-grunge and rock, this one is for you.
A New Song From a Familiar Rock Group
Original Three Days Grace vocalist Adam Gontier announced his triumphant return to the band on October 3, 2024, and what’s cool is that the band also kept their current singer in Matt Walst. So, Three Days Grace now has two lead vocalists. The news wasn’t a total shock, because Gontier did a surprise guest appearance with the band in April 2023.
“I think emotionally and physically and spiritually, I was in a really dark place. We had been touring nonstop. It felt like for so long, and there was so much that had compounded for me. Mainly I was just not healthy,” Gontier told People magazine of his time away from the band and coming back to it.
“At the time, I just felt like I couldn’t do it and I needed to look after myself,” he added. “I had to stop the machine from rolling — at least from my end. It felt like a giant machine. I was in the middle of it, getting thrown around.”
Now, Three Days Grace have released “Dominate,” marking the newest single from their upcoming album, “Alienation,” scheduled to drop on August 22. The upcoming album features both Gontier and Walst, which was also the case on previously released singles “Mayday” and “Apologies.”
On “Dominate,” Three Days Grace offer up a rock jam that’s similar to what they’ve delivered their entire career. It’s simply a quick, catchy rock anthem with powerful vocals and big guitars.
Regarding “Dominate,” Walst said in a statement, “This song’s about the fire that wakes you up when the world doesn’t. The sun doesn’t rise or set for you — it just keeps spinning. If you want something, really want it, you’ve gotta bleed for it. You’ve gotta be willing to give up everything — sleep, comfort, peace — just to get a shot at being the best.”
He added, “I’ve lived that. I’ve felt the weight of proving myself when no one thought I could. But when you’ve got something to prove and nothing left to lose? That’s when you’re at your most dangerous.”
Walst also said that “‘Dominate’ isn’t just a word — it’s a mindset. You take the hits. You push through the pain. You don’t wait — you take what’s yours. That’s how I see it. That’s how I live it. This one’s for anyone who’s ever been counted out — and came back to own it all.”
Three Days Grace are keeping busy this year, and they’re currently closing out a Canadian tour with Volbeat. They band will set off on a co-headlining U.S. tour with Breaking Benjamin in August.
